CIA Computing can protect your Laptop....

According to CBC News (August 1, 2008) the US government has given border officials the power to confiscate, and copy information from any business laptop / PDA or cell phone without probable cause.  There are many other things included in the document, but for our purposes we will focus on the intellectual data components.  This U.S. Government document was dated July 16, 2008.

There is no mention in the document regarding “U.S Customs and Border Protection Policy” about the IT qualifications required by the customs agent performing such copying of data from laptops.  U.S Customs say they can outsource this job to others, but are quite vague on this issue also.  There is the question of who is going to be responsible for any loss, corruption or destruction of data during their investigation.  Then the ICE (Enforcement Agency) has 15 days to keep your data.  If your company has security implementations like EFS-certificates etc, it would seem highly unlikely that anyone would be able to acquire any information from your laptop if your Computers and Network have been secured properly.
