Free Music!!

04 February, 2008

No fun on a Business Machine-What do you mean?

Sites that share music-Wow!  Free music!

When I was younger it would have been really cool to not pay for my music, but "Sam the Record Man" would not have had a purpose.  It used to be a great afternoon out, going to the local Music store, picking up a couple of 45's, or a new LP by your favorite artist.

Now that technology has allowed the availability of free music, there are a few key questions that arise:

1.            Is it morally correct to download free music?
2.            Who owns the rights to this free music?
3.            Will this activity promote or help decay our modern music industry?

Aside from these questions, one that really should take priority is what damage can occur to my computer and my information?  Then the other questions that were mentioned earlier become really insignificant once you get the answer to this question.

It is public news that there was a breach of security in a Canadian Government operation due to a Peer to Peer music sharing site.  The news article can be viewed at the CBC News site and was updated Friday February 1, 2008.  We really don't like to mention names, unless absolutely necessary, so you could do your own research to figure out who was the offending download site.

"This breach released information like Names, address, date of birth, medical and work histories - relating to 153 individuals."  The Provincial Government has also locked down security around their computer equipment since an employee brought home a government computer and they suffered a similar breach November 2007.

The summary of this conversation is there are new music file sharing companies coming up all the time.  File sharing programs are inherently dangerous to you and your personal information because Peer to Peer sharing means someone can download your personal files while you’re downloading your favorite music-How free is that?

We can take out news paper ads, TV ads, and shout this information from highest mountains in the world and people will still join a music download site and eventually someone will have their ID or information stolen.

We will not promote file sharing products, but if you want to join one of these groups we recommend that you keep your business machines separate from your fun machines.  Your business depends on it.  You can pick up a reasonably priced off-lease computer to play on chat sites, social networking sites, Music downloading etc, and you won't have to worry about your important personal and business information being stolen.
